"LANGUAGE EDUCATION IN A POST-COVID 19 WORLD: LESSONS LEARNT FROM THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM IN AN EMERGENCY CONTEXT"

At the beginning of 2022, the Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the human world for more than two years. Education in general and language teaching, in particular, have witnessed substantial changes in terms of pedagogy and policy. When the world is entering the ‘new normal’, it is useful to reflect on the experience and derive lessons so that similar situations can be effectively handled in the future. This paper aims to provide an overview of language education in the past two years by identifying the challenges language teachers have encountered as well as the efforts they have made to solve the problems. Implications and lessons related to course evaluation, mode of instruction delivery, pedagogical methods, and teacher professional development are given with the hope to get teachers better prepared for their classes in post-Covid time and also for possible crises in the future.

"POST-COVID EDUCATIONAL DIRECTION: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES"

The physical and psychological impact of COVID-19 pandemic in education in Nepal has clearly been seen, particularly for young learners, teachers, and parents. Despite the detrimental consequences, the scenario provided opportunities for policymakers and classroom practitioners to revisit the past practices and promote innovative techniques of ensuring that the students have access to quality education. One major opportunity involved the new paradigm of blended and distance learning while in-class instructional activities became impossible.  However, in the post-Covid context, there are layers of other challenges and frustrations in educational management. This research-based presentation attempts to explore the challenges in ELT pedagogy and the strategies to address them. It particularly explores the pre and post-Covid ELT Praxis with young learners, taking a sample of 27 community schools in Nepal.
