Book Review App 2026

📚 How to Write a Great Book Review

A Step-by-Step Interactive Guide for Independent Learners (Level B1)

Writing a book review is more than retelling a story. It is your critical opinion that guides others on whether the text is worth reading. Use the steps, templates, and the interactive builder below to draft and view your single-page review.

📖 Step 1: Select & Check

Choose an appropriate graded reader, short novel, or non-fiction title.

  • Rule of thumb: Read a page in the middle. If more than 5 words stop your understanding, consider an easier level.
  • Focus on a genre or topic that naturally interests you.

🔍 Step 2: Read Actively

Read in two distinct stages:

  1. First Pass: Read smoothly for the general plot/concept.
  2. Second Pass: Note key themes, 1–2 notable quotes, and overall strengths or weaknesses.

Step 3: Structure & Sentence Frames

Paragraph Target Length Core Elements Useful Sentence Frames
1. Intro ~75 words Title, author, genre, central premise, general reaction. "The book [Title] by [Author] offers a compelling look at..."
"Set in [Setting], this [Genre] explores the theme of..."
2. Summary ~125 words Main conflict/argument. No spoilers. "The narrative focuses on [Protagonist], who must..."

4. Verdict ~75 words Star rating, final judgment, target audience. "Overall, I award this work [X] out of 5 stars because..."
"I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy..."

✍️ Step 4: Review Builder (Draft & Live Outcome)
