ð How to Write a Great Book Review
A Step-by-Step Interactive Guide for Independent Learners (Level B1)
Writing a book review is more than retelling a story. It is your critical opinion that guides others on whether the text is worth reading. Use the steps, templates, and the interactive builder below to draft and view your single-page review.
ð Step 1: Select & Check
Choose an appropriate graded reader, short novel, or non-fiction title.
- Rule of thumb: Read a page in the middle. If more than 5 words stop your understanding, consider an easier level.
- Focus on a genre or topic that naturally interests you.
ð Step 2: Read Actively
Read in two distinct stages:
- First Pass: Read smoothly for the general plot/concept.
- Second Pass: Note key themes, 1–2 notable quotes, and overall strengths or weaknesses.
Step 3: Structure & Sentence Frames
| Paragraph | Target Length | Core Elements | Useful Sentence Frames |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Intro | ~75 words | Title, author, genre, central premise, general reaction. |
