One of the objectives of the EU’s language policy is therefore that every European citizen should master two other languages in addition to their mother tongue.อียู ไม่เคยกำหนดภาษาราชการเฉพาะภาษาหนึ่งภาาาใด นั่นหมายความว่าทุกภาษาของชาติสมาชิก คือ ภาาาราชการ
ดังนั้นข่าวที่ว่า จะกำหนดให้ภาษาฝรั่งเศส หรือ เยอรมัน เป็นภาษาราชการของอียู จึงเป็นความเข้าใจที่คลาดคลื่อน
