Learning Freytag's Pyramid with Somchai and Sunee
Welcome! Let's learn about the five parts of a story using a simple tale. For each part, you will read a piece of the story and then complete a small exercise.
Step 1: Exposition (Introduction) ðš️
**Story Part:** Somchai and Sunee were two friends who lived in a small village in Thailand. Somchai loved to fly kites, and his favorite was a beautiful red kite he made himself. Sunee loved to take pictures of the village and its people. They often played together in the big field outside their homes.
Exercise: What are the main elements of this exposition?
Step 2: Rising Action (The Problem) ð§♀️
**Story Part:** One day, a huge storm came. The wind was so strong it tore Somchai’s favorite kite from his hands and carried it away. He was very sad. The next morning, they looked for it. The kite was stuck high up in a very tall, old banyan tree deep in the forest. Somchai was afraid of climbing tall things, but he knew he had to get his kite back. Sunee promised to help him.
Exercise: What is the main problem and the initial challenge?
Step 3: Climax (The Big Moment) ⚡
**Story Part:** Somchai and Sunee went to the tree. The climb was difficult and scary. The tree branches were slippery from the rain. Somchai got halfway up, but then he froze. He was too scared to go on. Sunee saw his fear and took out her camera. She told him, "Somchai, look at all the beautiful things you can see from up here! I can't get these pictures from the ground." This gave Somchai a new idea. He decided to focus on the view and not his fear. He climbed higher and higher, all the way to the top.
Exercise: What is the turning point in the climax?
Step 4: Falling Action (Winding Down) ðŽ️
**Story Part:** Somchai reached the top and carefully pulled his red kite free. He was proud of himself. As he climbed back down, he saw how much easier it was. Sunee cheered for him from the ground and took a picture of his happy face. They felt a great sense of relief as they walked back to the village.
Exercise: How does the tension start to go down?
Step 5: Resolution (The End) ✅
**Story Part:** When they arrived home, Somchai had a new idea. He fixed his kite and attached Sunee’s camera to it. They flew it high in the sky and took a wonderful picture of their whole village. Somchai had his kite back, and Sunee had the best picture she had ever taken. They learned that facing your fears with a good friend can lead to something amazing.
Exercise: What is the final outcome and the story's lesson?
