Compassion and Mercy: Two (True) Ingredients of Peace and reconciliation

Compassion and Mercy: Two (True) Ingredients of Peace and Reconciliation

The world has many conflicts, most of them are caused by misunderstandings and human errors. Reasons alone can never guarantee peace. Technologies of all kinds are not answers. Love and forgiveness are.

In a nation or society where people are put into situations where they are conditioned or reinforced to hate and hurt each other. Using laws and rules alone is not going to alter the situation. What is needed may be a simple answer . Love and forgive.

Simple as they are, many find it a challenge to breed and exert these noble qualities. Hatred and ignorance often find ways to seep into human perceptions. This causes humans to lower their love and compassion. It also sabotage their ability to forgive.

More events and stories of love, compassion and mercy should be communicated and shared. The force of the positive thought should not be underestimated, even when we utter kind words or merciful glances at one another and other beings.

When it comes to expressing love, compassion, friendship, and kindness, poets and sages can do it best. One of such poems is composed by  Dinah Maria Mulock Craik:

“Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person; having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but to pour them all out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together,
knowing that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping, and then, with a breath of kindness,
blow the rest away.”
