การใช้ Lie, Lay, Laid and Lain

เริ่มเรียนกันเลยครับ วันนี้เราจะมาเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับประโยคที่มีคำว่า "lay" และ "lie" กันนะครับ
ก่อนอื่นเลย เรามาดูความหมายของ "lay" กับ "lie" กันก่อนครับ
ลองอ่านบทกวีนี้ดูนะครับ
In the nest, the hen lays eggs with ease,
A mother's duty, she aims to please.
But beware, for some, the truth they deny,
In falsehoods and lies, they choose to lie.
"lay" คือคำกริยาที่เรียกว่ากริยาที่รับของ หรือต้องมรกรรมมารองรับ (Transitive Verbs) หมายความว่าเราต้องมีของที่จะวาง something ลงไป ดังนั้นเมื่อคุณ "lay" อะไรบางอย่าง คุณกำลังวางมันไปอย่างแนบแน่น ตัวอย่างเช่น "I lay the book on the table" ในประโยคนี้ "the book" คือของที่กำลังวางลงไป
จะพูดว่า I lay. โดยไม่บอกว่า จะ Lay อะไรสักอย่างไม่ได้นะครับ
Lay down your weapons. วางอาวุธ
In the room, lay the book upon the table, มีการใช้ Inversion นะครับ
A simple act, as clear as it's able.

แต่สำหรับ "lie" ก็เป็นคำกริยาที่ไม่ต้องมีของตาม เมื่อคุณพูดถึง "lie" (ไม่ใช่การโกหกนะครับ) คุณกำลังพูดถึงสิ่งที่นอนอยู่ในท่านอน ตัวอย่างเช่น "The cat likes to lie in the sun" ในประโยคนี้ ไม่มี X ตามหลัง "The cat" เพียงแค่พูดถึงสิ่งที่นอน

Lay (V1) Laid (V2)
คำกริยา "lay" ในอดีตก็คือ "laid" นั่นเองครับ เช่น "Yesterday, I laid the book on the table" หมายความว่าเมื่อวานผมวางหนังสือลงไปบนโต๊ะ
His reforms laid the foundation of future greatness. การปฏิรูปของเขาวางรากฐานของความยิ่งใหญ่ในอนาคต
ส่วน "lie" ในอดีตก็เป็น "lay" เช่น "Yesterday, the cat lay in the sun" หมายความว่าเมื่อวานแมวนอนอยู่ในแสงแดด
Yesterday, I laid the book on the table,
Setting it down, as I was able.
Yesterday, the cat lay in the sun,
Basking in warmth, her day begun.
และนั่นก็คือความแตกต่างระหว่าง "lay" และ "lie" นะครับ! จำได้ว่า "lay" ต้องมีของ/อะไรบางอย่างตาม (Transitive) และ "lie" ไม่ต้องมี และอย่าลืมดูการใช้งานในอดีตด้วยนะครับ! ฝึกฝนให้มากขึ้นจะได้เก่งขึ้นนะครับ
Lay eggs คือ การวางไข่
เริ่มจาก "lay" ครับ ในทางที่เกี่ยวข้องกับไข่ "lay" หมายถึงการวางไข่ มันเป็นกริยาที่ใช้ในการพูดถึงการวางไข่ลงไป เช่น "Chickens lay eggs" หรือ "The bird laid an egg" ที่นี้คำนี้ใช้ในรูปของ "lay" ที่หมายถึงการวางไข่
แต่ "lay" ในแง่ที่ไม่เกี่ยวข้องกับไข่ คือการวางบางสิ่งอย่างลงไปอย่างแนบแน่น ตัวอย่าง เช่น "Please lay the table for dinner" หมายถึงกระบวนการการจัดโต๊ะให้พร้อมสำหรับอาหาร
การใช้ในอดีต
"laid" คือรูปของ "lay" ในอดีต ซึ่งหมายถึงการวางไข่ หรือการวางสิ่งของลงไป เช่น "Yesterday, the hen laid three eggs" หรือ "Yesterday, Penny laid her cards on the table"

ต่อไปเรามาดู "lie" ที่หมายถึงการโกหก
เราใช้ "lie" เมื่อเราพูดถึงการพูดเท็จหรือโกหก ตัวอย่างเช่น "She lied about her age" หมายความว่าเธอโกหกเรื่องอายุของเธอ
She lied about her age, a deceitful play,
Hiding the truth, in a clever way.
But it's time to lay it on the line,
Be honest and clear, let the truth shine.
You're just going to have to lay it on the line,
Tell her straight, it's not up to the sign.
Be direct, be firm, don't tiptoe or bluff,

จำได้เลยนะครับว่า "lay" คือการวางบางสิ่ง และ "lie" คือการพูดเท็จ
The foundation stone was laid in 1972. แปลว่า ได้มีการวางศิลาฤกษ์เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2515
laid มาจาก lay ที่แปลว่า วาง นั่นเอง
His education would lay a strong foundation of his life. การศึกษาของเขาจะเป็นการวางรากฐานอันแข็งแกร่งในชีวิตของเขา
ตอนนี้เราจะมาเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับคำว่า "lay" และ "lie" ในรูปแบบของคำอดีตกันครับ
เริ่มจาก "lay" ครับ ในรูปของอดีต "lay" เป็น "laid" และ "lain" เมื่อถูกใช้กับกริยาช่องที่ 3 หรือ perfect participle
ตัวอย่างเช่น
Yesterday, I laid the book on the table. (เมื่อวานนี้ผมวางหนังสือลงบนโต๊ะ)
The eggs were laid by the hens this morning. (ไข่ถูกวางโดยไก่เช้านี้)
The blanket has been lain on the bed. (ผ้าห่มถูกวางบนเตียงแล้ว)
และมาดูกันเลยเกี่ยวกับ "lie" ที่ใช้ในความหมายของการนอน

ว่าด้วยเรื่อง การใช้ Lain (V3)
"Lain" เป็นรูปกริยาช่องที่สาม (Past Participle) มาจากกริยา "lie" เมื่อใช้แสดงถึงการนอนหรือพักผ่อนในท่านอนบนพื้นหรือพื้นผ่อน เรามาดูวิธีการใช้ "lain" อย่างถูกต้องนะครับ:

1. Lain (v3) เป็นกริยาใช้ร่วมกับ "Have" หรือ "Has": เพื่อสร้าง Present Perfect - แสดงถึงการกระทำที่เริ่มต้นในอดีตและยังคงต่อเนื่องในปัจจุบัน หรือผลกระทบยังคงอยู่
- The cat has lain on the windowsill all day. (แมวนอนอยู่บนชั้นตลอดวัน)

3. เป็นกริยาแสดงอดีต "lain" สามารถใช้คนเดียวใน Past simple tense โดยเฉพาะในงานเขียนทางเรื่องการเขียนเป็นอย่างสูง
- Yesterday, I lay down and had lain there for hours before getting up. (เมื่อวานนี้ ผมนอนลงและนั่งอยู่นานมากก่อนจะลุกขึ้น)
